Let’s take a look at the FXTS Weekly Market Preview for the upcoming week of 3rd-7th Feb 2025. Discover the key events of the week ahead, including economic data releases and the quarterly reports of publicly listed companies.

As we mark the start of a new month, our market preview has you covered with the upcoming economic reports and earnings releases all traders need to know about. With earnings season in full swing, expect an action-packed week, as Google, Alibaba, AMD, Pfizer, and Disney all publish their quarterly figures. In the US, the topic of interest rates remains on everyone’s lips, after the Federal Reserve (Fed) held rates at last week’s January meeting, despite President Trump calling for them to be lowered.

Economic Highlights

The highlight of the week is Friday’s highly-anticipated US jobs report, which will play a key role in shaping the debate around interest rates. Against the backdrop of Trump’s much publicised tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, the report offers potential insights around labour market strength and inflationary pressures. Last time out, in December, 256K jobs were added, with unemployment decreasing to 4.1%. In Canada, trade and jobs data will be closely watched as its trade relationship with the US continues to evolve due to Trump’s policy promises being realised.

Moving over to the UK, there is a growing expectation that the Bank of England (BoE) will cut rates from 4.75% to 4.50% at the close of its next meeting on Thursday. Bank officials continue to be concerned about the risk of increased inflation caused by persistently high private sector wages and a weakened pound against the dollar. As for the eurozone, market attention will shift to Tuesday’s flash inflation figures, which will be particularly interesting to watch following January’s five-month high.

In the Asia-Pacific region, interest rates will also be the main focus, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) meets to set rates this week. The bank is expected to cut rates to 6.25% in February, with another decrease expected sometime in the next quarter. Over in Japan, the national bank will release a summary of opinions from its January meeting, Australia discloses its latest trade figures, while both China and South Korea reveal their countries’ respective inflation data for January.
