As we prepare to welcome in the month of April, we introduce our latest Weekly Market Preview. Each Monday morning, we publish our roundup of the week’s most important economic releases and company earnings reports. Written by our in-house market experts, it helps traders gain a better understanding of what market reports to look out for in the days ahead.

Economic Highlights

This week in the US, the main highlight is the non-farm payroll report for March, due on Friday. Other key releases include figures relating to wage growth, trade and unemployment. Recent flash estimates have pointed towards a growth in employment, on the back of a decline in February, so market onlookers will be following the data closely. As for Canada, trade and employment figures are scheduled, with recent reports suggesting trade uncertainty may have stifled production.

Over in Europe, inflation is the word on everyone’s lips, amid persistent concerns around trade-related risks. Here, the markets wait patiently in anticipation to assess whether price growth matches up with the European Central Bank’s target. Meanwhile, in Germany, factory orders and retail sales figures are expected. The data could offer a glimpse into ongoing domestic demand, particularly on the back of a stronger manufacturing performance in March. In the UK, mortgage and housing price data will be published, offering further insights into trends concerning property values and lending activity.

Lastly, in the Asia-Pacific region, attention shifts to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) April policy meeting, with a rate cut potentially being on the cards. Despite easing inflation, business activity has improved, meaning the RBA’s next steps will be closely watched. Elsewhere, China reports its latest economic data, Japan publishes its Tankan survey and South Korea reveals its inflation figures for March.
