Let’s take a look at the FXTS Weekly Market Preview for the upcoming week of 27th-31st Jan 2025. Discover the key events of the week ahead, including economic data releases and the quarterly reports of publicly listed companies.
Welcome back to this week’s edition of our market preview, where we bring you a handy guide to the most anticipated economic data releases and company earnings reports scheduled for the week ahead. It is set to be a busy few days, with key interest rate decisions from the US and eurozone expected, while several of the so-called “Magnificent Seven” stocks will report their latest earnings figures, including Microsoft, Meta, Tesla, and Apple.
Economic Highlights
With President Trump’s new administration entering its second week in office, following last Monday’s official inauguration ceremony, attention will turn to the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) actions. Markets will be analysing the potential impact of Trump’s policy agenda on the FOMC’s inflation outlook, with interest rates expected to remain unchanged. This contrasts with Canada, with market consensus predicting a 25 bps interest rate cut by the Bank of Canada – although easing inflationary pressures and potential US tariffs could yet affect this.
Across the Atlantic, the European Central Bank (ECB) will also meet to decide on interest rates, with the bloc’s current economic performance lagging behind the US pointing to a potential rate cut. Other important Europe-related releases include GDP figures for Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the eurozone, while consumer confidence data for the former two countries is likely to be closely followed.
In the Asia-Pacific region, China’s National Bureau of Statistics will report PMI data for January, Australia releases its Q4 inflation figures, and Japan’s industrial production and consumer confidence reports will be under the spotlight. The latter nation’s figures are something to watch out for, with manufacturing output decreasing by the fastest rate in nine months, compounded by weakened business optimism across Japan’s private sector.
