Economic Highlights

In the US, the Federal Reserve (Fed) meets this week, with no interest rate changes expected. All focus will be on the central bank’s updated economic projections, as markets assess the likelihood of rate cuts this calendar year. Over the next 12 months, investors are anticipating a reduction of up to 50 basis points. In terms of key data releases, retail sales, industrial production, and housing figures for February are all due. In Canada, inflation and retail sales are both on this week’s release schedule.

Moving on to the UK, the Bank of England (BoE) announces its monetary policy decision on Thursday. While no immediate rate cuts are expected, markets are pricing in reductions later in the year. Elsewhere in Europe, the eurozone’s final inflation data will be confirmed on Wednesday. Aside from this, Germany’s ZEW survey, inflation data from Italy, and trade figures from Spain will be revealed.

Over in the Asia-Pacific region, Japan and Indonesia hold central bank meetings, with policy rates expected to remain unchanged. China’s retail sales and industrial production reports will be closed followed by investors, alongside Japan’s inflation and trade data. Meanwhile, New Zealand releases its latest GDP figures, offering an important update regarding the country’s economic performance.
