Let’s take a look at the FXTS Weekly Market Preview for the upcoming week of 13th-17th Jan 2025. Discover the key events of the week ahead, including economic data releases and the quarterly reports of publicly listed companies.

Welcome along to our second weekly preview of the new year, where we break down the most important upcoming economic data releases and quarterly earnings reports of the week ahead. With the majority of the world’s leading economies now back in full swing after a festive period mostly punctuated by market holidays, there’s plenty to look forward to over the coming days.

Economic Highlights

All eyes will be firmly fixed on December’s US inflation data, which according to market consensus is expected to remain close to the November figures, which at the time represented a four-month high of 2.7%. Other key US releases scheduled for this week include retail sales data (forecast to rise month on month), while the industrial production figures are predicted to show a decline compared to the previous month.

Over in the UK, inflation data for December is set to be the country’s biggest release of the week, with the rate expected to tick upwards once again. Inflation in the country hit 2.6% in November, after rising for the second month in a row. In a busy few days for the UK, November’s GDP, retail sales, and manufacturing, services, and output data will also be published. Meanwhile, final December inflation figures for the eurozone – including Germany, France, Spain, and Italy – are all due for release.

Heading east into the Asia-Pacific region, China will publish its Q4 GDP data alongside a raft of other disclosures for December, including industrial production, retail sales, and its latest unemployment rate. Adding to an already action-packed week ahead, India presents inflation figures for December, South Korea’s central bank meets to decide on interest rates, and Australia announces its December unemployment rate.
