Let’s take a look at the FXTS Weekly Market Preview for the upcoming week of 10th-14th Feb 2025. Discover the key events of the week ahead, including economic data releases and the quarterly reports of publicly listed companies.

Welcome to another edition of our Weekly Market Preview, brought to you every Monday morning by the FX Trust Score team. With the United States and China teetering on the edge of a tariff-related trade war, inflation data releases for both countries will be keenly watched by investors this week. As for stocks, with earnings season rolling on, several big names are set to report their latest quarterly results, including the likes of Cisco, Coinbase, Coca-Cola, Robinhood, and Unilever.

Economic Highlights

In the US, all eyes will be on January’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) data and Federal Reserve (Fed) chair Jerome Powell’s testimony before Congress. Following the Fed’s decision to hold steady on interest rates, Wednesday’s inflation figures could move the needle on rate expectations. Powell’s words will be closely followed for insights into Fed policy, as investors seek clarity on economic shifts under Trump, including tax cuts, labour crackdowns, and changing tariffs.

Over in the UK, the country’s stuttering economic growth remains an ongoing concern, particularly as the Bank of England (BoE) scaled back its growth forecast and raised its inflation outlook at its big rate-setting meeting last week. Fourth-quarter GDP figures are due, which could offer insight into the UK’s economic performance, potentially influencing future BoE rate decisions. Within the eurozone, GDP remains in focus alongside industrial production data, while a speech from European Central Bank (ECB) president Christine Lagarde may provide further policy signals.

Looking at the Asia-Pacific region, China’s inflation figures will dominate the discussion, with consensus pointing to an uptick in performance compared to December’s 11-month low of 0.1%. In Australia, attention shifts to the Westpac Consumer Confidence Index, a key indicator of consumer sentiment and the overall state of the country’s future economic prospects. Across the Tasman Sea, New Zealand will report electronic retail sales, which could offer important insights into the nation’s consumer spending trends.
