Economic Highlights

In the US, while Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs officially come into effect on Wednesday, market attention shifts to the release of the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) March meeting minutes and updated CPI inflation forecasts. Last month, the Fed elected to hold rates steady, before raising its inflation projections and downgrading its growth forecasts, citing tariff-related uncertainties. Elsewhere, neighbouring Mexico publishes its inflation and industrial production data.

Across the Atlantic, the UK’s GDP figures for February are scheduled for release on Friday. It should offer fresh indications into the country’s potential economic recovery, which showed signs of promise in March after a disappointing start to 2025. As for the eurozone, Germany has a busy week ahead, publishing its trade and industrial production reports, as well as its revised inflation data for March.

Moving on to the Asia-Pacific region, key central bank policy meetings will be held in New Zealand and India, with no rate changes anticipated. Over in China, the headline releases include March’s inflation and trade data, with special focus on declining factory gate prices, which have fallen for four months in a row. Other important updates include Japan’s consumer confidence figures and inflation data from India, Taiwan and Indonesia.
