Let’s take a look at the FXTS Weekly Market Preview for the upcoming week 30th Dec 2024 – 3rd Jan 2025. Discover the key events of the week ahead, including economic data releases and the quarterly reports of publicly listed companies.

As we prepare to welcome in the new year, with 2025 just around the corner, we decided to put together a special version of our weekly preview so you don’t miss out on what’s scheduled for the coming days. This week’s edition is much shorter than usual, with the markets being closed on New Year’s Day and no major companies expected to report their quarterly earnings.

Economic Highlights

At the turn of the year, the holiday-shortened trading week brings with it a much quieter list of upcoming economic releases, aside from inflation figures for Spain, France, South Korea, Indonesia, and Turkey. The publication of Germany’s latest unemployment rate figures for December will also be closely watched, alongside global manufacturing PMI data.

However, much of the focus remains on this year’s Santa Claus Rally, the market phenomenon whereby stock prices tend to rise during the final five days of a calendar year and the first two days of the next. Somewhat unusually, stocks have so far failed to live up to the usual festive hype, with each of the top three US stock market indexes closing the day lower on 27 December.
