Economic Highlights

This week, global attention will be fixed firmly on events in the United States, ahead of the 2024 US Presidential Election, which is set to drive significant market moves as investors assess the impact on fiscal and trade policy. Alongside the election, major central bank meetings and critical PMI data will shape market sentiment. In particular, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is expected to announce a 25-basis-point rate cut, according to multiple leading economists polled by Reuters.

In Europe, the Bank of England (BoE) is due to hold its November meeting, with the markets anticipating that it will resume its lowering of interest rates, after pausing at 5% in September. Other key releases which could shed light on economic conditions across Europe include the eurozone’s retail sales, Germany’s trade figures, and the UK’s Halifax House Price Index.
In the Asia-Pacific, central bank meetings in Australia and Malaysia are predicted to maintain current policy settings. Focus will also be on China’s trade and inflation data for signs of economic health, while Australia’s trade statistics and various inflation releases across South Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines should provide additional insights into the wider region’s economic outlook.
